Learn-Discover-Grow Series: Watershed

Raising a family and living in Gardiner, Maine for the last 30 years has taught Tina Wood that individuals can make a difference in their community and make the world a better place to live, grow and thrive through their passionate dedication.

In 2015 as an artist, art teacher, and Maine Master Naturalist Tina began Upstream, a nonprofit seeking to create fish passage on Cobbosseecontee Stream in her hometown after seeing hundreds of thousands of river herring stopped from migrating to their natal ponds by Gardiner’s three downtown dams.

Using the power of art to communicate and gather folks together, along with the inspiration from Gardiner’s gem of a stream called Cobbosseecontee, the ever diligent, persistent alewife, current scientific research, and the resources in her vibrant communities, a creative solution for fish passage and an economic revival in Gardiner’s downtown and the watershed is within reach.
